As news editor for Charisma magazine, I read hundreds of stories every week about the good, bad and ugly. Unfortunately, most of it is bad and ugly.
Through this lens, it’s clear that anti-Christ agendas and false gospels are rising. In the world, we see the homosexual agenda, the socialist agenda, the atheist agenda and so on. In the church, we see the hypergrace movement, sexual scandals in the church and cessationist wars that grieve the Holy Spirit.
Still, Jesus is Lord.

THERE IS NO “HYPERGRACE MOVEMENT, SEXUAL SCANDALS” NOR “CESSATIONIST WARS” IN THE CHURCH (BODY OF BELIEVERS), PERIOD!!! I DO BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE THESE THINGS HAPPENING IN “ RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS IN THE WORLD.”
TRUE BELIEVERS IN CHRIST JESUS HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVING INSIDE THEM. JENNIFER – Over the Thanksgiving break, I was encouraged by some seemingly trivial observations. For example, the Gideon Bible was still in my drawer at the Embassy Suites in downtown Tampa . When I went down for breakfast, a couple sitting next to me held hands and prayed over their meal in the name of Jesus. In nearby St. Petersburg , a nativity scene was displayed in all its glory.
Yes, the culture wars are real. The atheists really are trying to drive Christianity out of the public square, and radical gay activists really are trying to redefine traditional marriage. Yes, there is trouble in the church. High-profile pastors really are falling into sexual immorality or committing suicide. Yes, it’s likely to get darker in the days ahead.
Still, Jesus is Lord.

CHICO – CULTURE WARS, AS JENNIFER LECLAIRE DESCRIBES, ARE REAL “ IN THE WORLD,” BUT GOD’S WRITTEN WORD SAYS IN JOHN 15:19 THAT WE ARE NOT OF THIS WORLD, PERIOD!!!John 15:19 “If ye were of the world,” the world would love his own: but because “ye are not of the world,” but I have chosen you “out of the world,” therefore the world hateth you. Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course “ of this world,” according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that “ now worketh in the children of disobedience:” John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is “ not of this world:” if my kingdom “ were of this world,” then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 1 John 2:15 “ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.” If “ any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:16 For “ all that is in the world,” the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is “ not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it “ in the world.”
JENNIFER – Peter warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). And to that I say a hearty amen. But nowhere in that verse does it call us to be paranoid or to be afraid of what will happen next. In fact, the Bible tells us repeatedly to “fear not.”
3. CHICO – WHY DOES JENNIFER LECLAIRE INSINUATE IN THE SENTENCE ABOVE, THAT THE READER IS PARANOID OR AFRAID OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT???
JENNIFER – Paul warned us not to be ignorant of the devil’s devices (2 Cor. 2:11). Again, I say amen. But the apostle didn’t intend for us to exalt the enemy over Jesus. We need to put on our spiritual armor because we are wrestling against principalities and powers and rulers of the darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph. 6:12). But God always leads us into triumph in Christ (2 Cor. 2:14).
4. CHICO – AGAIN, WHY WOULD JENNIFER LECLAIRE ASSUME THAT THE READER INTENDED TO EXALT THE ENEMY OVER JESUS???
JENNIFER – We need to put on our spiritual armor because we are wrestling against principalities and powers and rulers of the darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph. 6:12 ). But God always leads us into triumph in Christ (2 Cor. 2:14 ).
5. CHICO – AS NEW BABY BELIEVERS IN GOD’S WRITTEN WORD, (JESUS), WE DO NEED TO PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD. THE ARMOUR IS FOR BATTLE AGAINST THE ENEMY, BUT ONCE WE HAVE KNOWN THE TRUTH, (JESUS), WE DON’T NEED THE ARMOUR, ALL WE NEED TO DO IS TO STAND FAST IN THE LIBERTY . THE WORD OF GOD, (JESUS) IS OUR LIBERTY!!! Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things “ we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall “ make you free.” John 8:36 If the Son therefore “ shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us “the victory” through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God “ overcometh the world:” and “ this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
JENNIFER – Each and every week, I sound the alarm through this column because we need to be sober and vigilant; we need to be educated about the devil’s devices; we need to be equipped to wrestle against that which is wrestling against us. But this week I am blowing the trumpet in Zion and sounding an alarm in God’s holy mountain (Joel 2:1). I would encourage you to read Joel 2 in its entirety. We need to heed God’s Word in this hour. We need to continue issuing the call to repentance in the church.

DID JENNIFER LECLAIRE FORGET WHAT GOD’S WRITTEN WORD SAYS IN Hebrews 6:4 “ For it is impossible for those “ who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, Hebrews 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, Hebrews 6:6 “ If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance;” seeing “ they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” Read that again!!! It is impossible….
JENNIFER – Then the Lord will be zealous for His land. Then God will pour His Spirit out upon us so we won’t grow weary in this wrestling match—and we won’t grow paranoid or fearful either.
7. CHICO – JENNIFER LECLAIRE DON’T YOU KNOW THAT GOD HAS ALREADY POURED OUT HIS SPIRIT ON US. IT’S PEOPLE SUCH AS YOURSELF THAT CONFUSES THE BABY BELIEVERS WITH YOUR FALSE TEACHINGS. Acts 2:4 And “they were all filled with the Holy Ghost,” and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and “ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that “ on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 4:8 “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost,” said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and “ they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
8. CHICO – BEWARE OF FALSE TEACHERS SUCH AS JENNIFER LECLAIRE. Putting on the armor as taught by Paul in Eph. 6 and to never let our guard down is not optional; it is absolutely necessary in order to “withstand in the evil day” and it’s a matter of constant spiritual training to get used to do so. It is presumptuous (and really dangerous) to think and teach that the spiritual armor is for babes in Christ.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.! (Eph. 6. 10-13)

In his first letter, Peter also warns to be vigilant:

Who is Peter addressing this warning to in this chapter? Certainly not spiritual babes! Clearly specified: He’s writing to the elders and shepherds of the flock (verse 1).

Context here shows clearly the danger of tempting Christ with practicing sin (taking Christ for granted using “grace” as an excuse). The problem today is that the biblical expression “saved by grace” is seriously misunderstood and taken out of context. Using verses about grace in that sense as an excuse to sin is profanation of grace. “Not under the law” is only applicable if one walks in the Spirit: see Gal 5. 13-18!

Other trace of false doctrine is teaching the “PreTribulation Rapture” as a doctrine. There’s nothing in the Scripture stating that the First Resurrection (and the Rapture – or Ascension of the living believers) would occur before the Tribulation period. If you study all the passages it seems more likely to happen during the second half of Tribulation (which is called the Great Tribulation). Thus PreTrib Rapt may be suggested as an hypothesis, it should never be taught officially as a doctrine.

First of all, the Bible version I’m using is not a “counterfeit” as you call it. It is a New King James Bible.
As a linguist, I should probably tell you that what is basically written in a newer translation of an old document is not changing. What is changing (and constantly evolving through centuries) is THE WAY THE PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING and WRITING. So unless you’re born in 1600, it won’t make any difference.

Do you know what the author of Hebrews is talking about here? And to whom he is writing?
He is trying to get the Jewish believers – who were making no spiritual progress but were regressing instead – to understand that going back to the TANAKH’s OBSERVANCE (the full Law of Moses) will profit them nothing for it is equivalent to denying Christ. In other words, they were trying to pour new wine in old wineskins. Those are the “dead works” the author is talking about. It has nothing to do with OBEDIENCE TO GOD which IS STILL required in the New Covenant.
The average believing Jews of that time were so confused that many of them even thought that observing the Law could save them. Those who believed in this error were called LEGALISTS. That’s why Paul, in his letters, had to explain several times to the Jews of different churches (inside and outside of Israel) that the Law was actually NEVER intended to save anybody in the first place; it was intended for sanctification – which is a totally different thing. Israel still needed faith for salvation and obedience to God through Law was the external way to perform it and perfect it.
On the other side, the Gentiles who were joining the churches had no understanding/knowledge of those differences and swung the pendulum the other way thinking Paul was teaching that obedience to God was no longer necessary. Doing so, they created another problem in the church which is ANTINOMIANISM. That’s why Paul had to correct the errors on both sides (Jews and Gentiles). This is also why the apostle James had to tell the people that faith without works is DEAD (chapter 2):
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?” (v.14)
Implied answer is NO it can’t. The so called “Salvation by FAITH ALONE” is an oxymoron because it does not exist. Faith is NEVER alone. Antinomianism, as much as legalism, is a cancer in the body of Christ. It is the very doctrine that has created the Sardis and Laodicean types of church and that has paved the way for the great apostasy we are now witnessing.
“(…) I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are DEAD. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found YOUR WORKS perfect before God”. (Re. 2.1-2)
The full 2nd chapter of James and the messages to the 7 churches (along with many other passages of the NT) are all saying that WORKS are not the antithesis of faith but its produce.

Now concerning the Last Trumpet: That’s true. I am not sure when the Last Trumpet will sound. God forbid! In one of his excellent revelations about the First Resurrection (1 Thessalonians 4-5), Paul bothers to mention that they [the brethren] knew perfectly that the day of the LORD would come “as a thief in the night”. In other words there was NO WAY to tell; the whole chapter 5 of 1st Thessalonians is about preparation, getting ready, being sober and vigilant so this day wouldn’t overtake them as a thief.
“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.” (v. 8)
Ain’t that interesting that Paul in this same context, while talking about the sons of light being vigilant and making themselves ready for that day, bothered to mention that they were doing so by putting on their SPIRITUAL ARMOR?

Really? Chico, you failed to go back and read the whole passage I summarized here when I quoted 1 Corinthians 10.12. Doing so, you would have had the right context > Here’s the whole passage (1 Co. 10. 7-10)

I did not invent this. It is written “TEMPTED” here. Twice. The thing is, in this particular context, the word TEMPTED has not the sense of “God being enticed by sin” but more of “provoking God to anger or into executing judgment”. In the other cases, even if God cannot fall into sin, it is still a sin and a grievous offense (Deut. 6.16) to TRY tempting God (or tempting anybody else as well).
Ironically you mentioned Jesus in the wilderness. Well, it’s exactly what Satan was doing there. He was trying to TEMPT Christ…
Luke 4.1-2. 13:

What Paul is calling “childish” here in his analogy is the limited power of temporal spiritual gifts (temporal as is childhood) compared to imperishable love that will never cease. Ever heard of a godly thing called LOVE, Chico? If you want to tell everybody how to “go unto perfection” I can give you a hint: repenting from your own lack of respect to other believers (and bloggers) and from your spiritual pride and arrogance would be a good start.

It’s because “Jesus” and “Joshua” are the same name. No mistake here.
Since the Hebrew name “Joshua” was translated “Jesus” in the Greek, they wrote “Jesus” everywhere in the N.T. but kept its Hebrew form “Joshua” when translating the O.T. as they did also with the other names.
But now this can be pretty tricky. In Hebrews 4.8, what the author is saying refers to *JOSHUA 22.4* in the O.T. Thus, while it was ok to translate “Joshua” to the name “Jesus” in the old KJV Bible (like for the rest of the NT), the editors chose later to change it back again to “Joshua” to avoid confusion (between the persons we now know as Jesus and Joshua).
This is like when we call the mother of Jesus “Mary” in English (and differently in other languages). There is NOBODY in the Scriptures, Old or New testament, named “Mary”. The name is MYRIAM (like Myriam, the sister of Moses). Same thing applies to the names of the cities and countries. Not only the city names change through time but also through translation.
It’s important that the people (especially the believers) understand this. I remember of a Jewish man mocking Jesus and the N.T. and calling it “a fraud” because “Jesus isn’t a Jewish name in the first place” and because “no presumed Hebrew apostle could ever be named Paul, John, Peter, James, etc”!! He just failed to realize what he was reading was a translation, and that their names were as Hebraic as they can be: “Yehoshua, Shaul, Yohanan, Shimon, Yaacov…”.
That been said, whoever wants to strain a gnat can call every Bible translation “a fraud” for having names or words changed! There are lots of myths, lies, fallacies and conspiracy theories about the Bible circulating on the Internet – just too many. Just like that video you linked for me to watch.
This thing about the KJV being the “only valid translation” is a persistent myth. Do you realize that the Bible was also translated in many indigenous languages and dialects, some of which had barely 1000 words? Just think about it for a moment… So, according to these wannabe “scholars”: if someone does not have the old King James version of the Bible, he doesn’t have the true word of God! Are you serious Chico?! Are you really buying that rubbish? Hey! What about all the people who existed A.D. on this planet (including all the English speaking people who lived before the KJV was ever written plus those who were illiterates)? And what about all the ones using one of the other English versions available? They are deceived or couldn’t be saved because they didn’t have a KING JAMES? Hey, man, give me a break!
No Chico, they are not deceived IF THEY DID WHAT WAS RIGHT; if they believed in Jesus as their Savior, if they TRULY repented of their sins and if they ABIDE in Him (John 15.1-8). The ones who are deceived are those bearing no fruit, who’s faith and repentance are just a form of “mental assertion”, those playing church in hypocrisy, those living consciously in DISOBEDIENCE to God thinking that GRACE is going to save them and the ones who knew the LORD but waned and departed from the faith. Please know this: Every fair enough translation of the Bible contains enough information (and spiritual power) to accomplish perfectly the purpose intended by God IF a person has a love for the TRUTH. Whoever pontificates of having the purest version or translation of the Scriptures while twisting its message and teaching that disobeying God is no big deal since “Jesus did it all” IS DECEIVING HIMSELF big time! (and the others as well). It will profit him nothing to strain out gnats if he’s ok with swallowing camels. It will only make him more accountable in the day of judgment.
Chico, please don’t believe what those rampant charlatans are spreading on the internet. Calling the NKJV a “fake Bible” won’t give you any credibility. As for me, the Bible I’m using the most is neither KJV nor NKJV but a Bible written in my own native language (which is actually closer to the Greek). As many others, I prefer the NKJV over the KJV for English because I’m not familiar with its old “XVII century” form.
